Is an Online Course Worth it?Is an Online Drumming Course Worth It? With the rise of digital education, many drummers—both beginners and experienced players—are turning to online drumming courses. But is investing in an online course really worth it? Let's explore the benefits and considerations to help you make an informed decision. Benefits of Online Drumming Courses Flexibility and Convenience: Online courses allow you to learn at your own pace and on your own schedule. This is ideal for those with busy lives who may not have the time to attend in-person lessons. Access to Expert Instruction: Our online drumming courses are taught by professional drummer Luke Herbert and renowned instructors. This provides you with access to top-tier teaching that you might not find locally. Cost-Effective: Online courses are often more affordable than traditional in-person lessons. You can save on travel expenses and often have access to a wide range of resources included in the course fee. Our in-person lessons cost over $50 per lesson. You can now study with Luke online for a fraction of the cost from anywhere in the world and have access to the lessons whenever you need it. Variety of Learning Materials: Our Online course will offer a mix of video tutorials, written materials, play-along tracks, and interactive tools. This variety caters to different learning styles and keeps the lessons engaging. Community and Support: online drumming platforms have built-in communities where you can connect with other students, share progress, ask questions, and receive feedback. This sense of community can be motivating and supportive. Repeatable Lessons: You can rewatch our videos and redo our play-along routines as many times as needed. This is a significant advantage for mastering complex techniques or reviewing tricky concepts. Considerations Before Enrolling Self-Discipline Required: Learning online requires a good amount of self-discipline and motivation. Without a set schedule or the physical presence of an instructor, it can be easy to procrastinate. Quality of Content: Our courses have been made with over 20 years of experience in Drum and Percussion Education and have been proof-tested on thousands of drummers in person. To bring you the best learning experience at home using our course. Technical Requirements: Ensure you have a reliable internet connection and the necessary equipment (e.g., a practice pad, drumsticks, a metronome) to follow along with the lessons effectively. Lack of Immediate Feedback: Unlike in-person lessons, you won’t get immediate feedback from an instructor. However, many courses offer forums or feedback sessions to help mitigate this. Conclusion An online drumming course can be an excellent investment, providing flexibility, access to expert instruction, and a wealth of resources. It’s particularly beneficial for those who are self-motivated and prefer learning at their own pace. What type of Sticks should I buy?The standard drumstick is the 5A and we sell our custom sticks on our online store. Here is a more detailed explanation of the types of drumsticks used when playing the drums. Choosing the Right Sticks: A Comprehensive Guide Selecting the right type of sticks can significantly impact your performance and experience, whether you’re a musician, an athlete, or an outdoor enthusiast. Here’s a detailed guide to help you make an informed decision. Understanding Different Types of Drumsticks. Standard Drumsticks Standard drumsticks are the most commonly used type and come in various sizes like 7A, 5A, 5B, and 2B. These numbers represent the thickness and weight of the sticks, with 7A being lighter and thinner, suitable for jazz and lighter playing styles, while 2B is heavier and thicker, perfect for rock and more intense playing. You might also explore specialized lines, we have our own custom drumsticks on our online store and will be adding different colours and weights in the coming months. Jazz Drumsticks Jazz drumsticks are designed specifically for the lighter touch and subtler sound required in jazz music. They are usually thinner and lighter, allowing for quick, delicate playing. Sizes like 7A are common in jazz sticks, providing a balanced feel for intricate rhythms. Rock Drumsticks For rock and heavier music genres, drummers often prefer sticks that are thicker and more robust, such as 5B or 2B. These sticks can handle powerful hits and offer greater durability, making them ideal for intense performances. Brushes Brushes are essential for jazz, blues, and other genres that require a softer, swishing sound on the drums. They are typically made of metal or plastic bristles and create a unique texture that drumsticks can’t achieve. Brushes are perfect for adding subtle, dynamic elements to your drumming. Mallets Drum mallets are versatile tools used in various musical settings. They have softer, padded heads, allowing for a more muted and resonant sound on drums and cymbals. Mallets are great for creating atmospheric effects and are often used in orchestral and percussion ensemble settings. Luke endorses Dragon Fly percussion who make beautiful custom mallets. Specialty Sticks For drummers looking for a different feel and response, specialty sticks like bundled rods (such as Hot Rods) or multi-rods provide unique options. These sticks combine several thin dowels bundled together, offering a softer attack and a different texture compared to standard drumsticks. They are ideal for acoustic settings and when a quieter sound is needed. By understanding the different types of drumsticks and their specific uses, you can choose the right pair to enhance your drumming style and performance. Experiment with various sizes and materials to find what works best for you. We will be adding more sticks, mallets and brushes to our online store as it grows.
